Mini Games By now, you've all heard or read about the mini games To help better plan high scoring combos, the point value for each gap is also included in the list. Not only is it back in THPS 4, but it is now viewable from the pause menu and it keepsĬount of how many times you have performed each BTT.
TONY HAWK PRO SKATER 5 DEMO SERIES
One of the biggest blunders in the history of the series was the commission of a gap checklist in THPS 3. By selecting the Pro Trick Objects option from the pause menu, you can elect to remove or restore these new pieces at will. Hopefully, there will be some tougher challenges for veteran players in the final release.Īfter completing a pro challenge, additional obstacles such as ramps and rails will be added to the level. None of the goals are very difficult, although I can see where newcomers to the series might initially have trouble with things like collecting C-O-M-B-O letters in one combo. Once you have done so, you can jump to that goal from the pause menu at any time, no matter where you are on the level. By talking to various people around the level, you can get information A complete run through of each is included in our video packs ( #1 / #2). Goals, Gaps, and Challenges There are 7 career goals available in the demo (a few more are present but not completely finished or working correctly). All in all, the level is quite nice and gives reason to be hopeful for the final product. There is also a taxi that appears to be willing and able to transport you to other levels in the game, but it is, as expected, out of service in theĭemo. If you're too lazy to skitch, you can always just jump into the back of a passing truck and hitch a ride to the other side of the level. As in THPS 3, the true-to-life feel is further accented by the cars and pedestrians who make their way alongside you on the streets and sidewalks. Sans the fact that a lot of walls just happen to have perfect transitions, this could actually be a real location, which is something that I think a lot of people, especially those like myself who also skate in non-virtual environments, would much prefer to see in the game. When coming off of a rail or ledge, you actually have time to set up for the next prop instead of being slammed right into it, ala the absolute mess that was found in THPS 3 levels such as Tokyo. The usual array of obstacles and props scattered about the level are done so in an intelligent, uncluttered manner. The level design is both functional and natural. It does have one important thing, though, and that is space. While the level is definitely large, I wouldn't personally deem it as massive as other reviews and previews have made it out to be. It is, thankfully, a realistic or "real world" type of level, and is unquestionably far more superior to anything that we saw in THPS 3. The mythical California College to be exact, not Berkeley or UCSF as was widely rumoured. Level Design There is only one playable level included in the demo: College (or School, if you prefer). You can also grab the videos individually by following the links at the end of this review.

If you have not done so already, make sure to download the video packs ( #1 / In an effort to avoid repeating what he wrote previously, I'll only be covering the details that haven't been mentioned yet. Not much has changed since then, and most of what he reported back in May still stands in this latest build.
For those of you who may be unfamiliar, Slateman first previewed the game at this year's E3 expo in Los Angeles. With the inclusion of a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 demo in the recent release of Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer for the PS2, we've had a chance to take a look at the game once again and get an idea of what THPS fans can expect in October.
